Student Castle Oxford
Situated at the west end of Oxford city centre, Oxpens is a former brownfield site that is undergoing major regeneration to create a mixed-use neighbourhood offering new and better homes, jobs, levels of connectivity and public spaces.
The first project to break ground at the site was the Student Castle Oxford. This development, which consists of three principal blocks of either five or six storeys, offers contemporary, high specification student accommodation across 515 bedrooms.
As well as flats, studios and ‘twodios’, the development includes a gym, meeting rooms, a games room, a lounge, roof terraces and a store for 290 bikes.
Constructed by repeat Unique Window Systems’ customer, Winvic Construction, the Student Castle Oxford is a landmark building in more ways than one. Not only was it the first scheme to get underway at Oxpens but its location also makes it the gateway to the area. Plus, it has employed next generation building techniques and materials.
To complement the advanced nature of the building envelope, which offers exceptional energy efficiency, as well as the development’s strong aesthetics, Winvic turned to Unique to answer their fenestration needs.
Specifically, we fabricated and supplied technically innovative, thermally efficient windows from the Warmcore® aluminium system, along with aluminium curtain walling from globally respected manufacturer, Shüeco in a bespoke Syntha Pulvin® colour.
